The Algur H. Meadows Award for Excellence in
the Arts was established by the Meadows School of the Arts
in November 1978 to recognize the highest level of international
achievement in the creative and performing arts. The Award
was established to signify Southern Methodist University's
deep conviction that the work of great artists sustains and
nurtures the hopes and aspirations of all mankind. The Meadows
Award is designed to honor the artistic accomplishments of
an individual and to provide a forum for the artist to share
ideas and aspirations with the students of the University.
The prestigious award, which carries a cash prize of $50,000,
is made possible by a grant from The Meadows Foundation.
