At the time of opening, this was the largest production that Ft. Worth Opera had mounted. The grand scale of the set by Allen Charles Klein was intended to float in a void of darkness. In Act I, effect projectors subtley rippled water acrosss the chorus from the Venetian waters stage left. In Act II, for the ship burning, a combination of a flicker effect generator with par cans running effects from the console while building in intensity lit the smoke as it grew in volume after the performer threw lighted torches into the bowles of the ship.
